START WITH WHAT MATTERS TO YOU

A tangible holding.
A considered decision.

Buying physical gold means thinking about an identifiable product: what it contains, how much it costs and how you will hold it. A bar and a coin can contain the same amount of gold while offering different practical features and carrying different premiums.

Some buyers focus on bullion content. Others have an interest in the design, history or condition of particular coins. Keep those motivations separate when you compare prices. An appealing issue can be enjoyable to own, while its collector premium remains uncertain.

THREE ROUTES INTO THE COLLECTION

Know the format.
Then compare the detail.

Look beyond the headline price. Read the fine weight, purity, issue and condition of the actual item offered.

A selection of international gold bullion coins
01 / GOLD COINS

A familiar format.
Distinct individual issues.

Compare the mint, year, size and finish. A fractional coin contains less gold than a full one-ounce version. The name or face value alone is not a measure of its fine gold content.

02 / GOLD BARS

Defined weight.
A choice of sizes.

Check the refiner, fineness and manufacturing style. Think about whether you may want to sell in stages: several smaller units offer different flexibility from one large bar.

03 / GRADED COINS

Condition assessed.
The label explained.

Read the service, grade, issue and certification number together. A grade is a condition assessment; it does not establish rarity, gold purity or a future selling price.

Understand NGC & PCGS

Stock photography illustrates the formats. Capsules are not grading holders. Check each catalogue item for its actual specification and certification.

MAKE A MEANINGFUL COMPARISON

Coins and bars,
side by side.

Neither format is automatically the better purchase. Compare what you pay, what you own and how you could sell it.

THE QUOTATION, EXPLAINED

More than the
price of the metal.

A live gold reference is a useful starting point. It is not the amount you can necessarily buy or sell a finished coin or bar for. Compare the whole transaction, including applicable charges.

01

Underlying gold content

Compare the fine gold weight, the currency and the time of the reference price. One troy ounce is approximately 31.1035 grams.

02

The product premium

Manufacturing, sourcing and availability affect the purchase price. For collectible coins, issue-specific demand and condition can add a further premium.

03

Costs and the future sale

Include delivery, storage and insurance where applicable. A dealer’s buying quotation can differ from its selling price, even when the underlying gold reference is unchanged.

FROM YOUR FIRST QUESTION TO OWNERSHIP

A clear process.
Room for your questions.

Confirm the specifics of your order in writing. An enquiry is the beginning of a conversation.

01

Tell us what you are considering

Start with a product, a category or a question. Explain whether your interest is mainly in fine gold content, a particular coin issue or a mixture of formats. If you have a preferred year, grade or quantity, include it in your enquiry. You do not need to have every detail decided before asking for information.

02

Compare an exact quotation

Review the product name, quantity, fine gold weight and full amount payable. Ask which charges are included, how long the quotation remains valid and when the price becomes fixed. Compare quotations for the same specification at a similar time; a changing market can make yesterday’s figure a poor comparison.

03

Confirm the terms and the paperwork

Read the purchase terms before agreeing or paying. Confirm payment instructions through an established contact channel, the checks required, and when ownership is recorded. Keep the written quotation and invoice. For graded coins, retain the certification information and original holder; for bars, keep supplied serial, assay and packaging records.

04

Agree delivery or custody

Discuss the arrangements available for the actual order. Confirm who handles delivery or storage, what cover applies, any limits or exclusions, and all charges. Ask when responsibility changes hands, how receipt is documented and what to do if something is delayed. Availability and timescales should be agreed rather than inferred from a catalogue image.

05

Keep the future sale in view

Hold on to the records and avoid cleaning coins or opening grading holders. When you want to sell, request a fresh buying quotation and confirm inspection, transport and settlement arrangements. Neither the original purchase price nor an additional collector premium is a guaranteed resale value. Prices and demand can change.

THINK BEYOND THE PURCHASE

Where will you
keep your gold?

Ownership brings practical responsibilities. Whether you are considering delivery or professional custody, establish who holds the metal, what documentation you receive and what protection applies.

  • For delivery: confirm the receiving arrangements, applicable transit cover, charges and what to do if an item is delayed or damaged.
  • For custody: ask who the provider is, how ownership is recorded, whether holdings are allocated, and how access, withdrawal and fees work.
  • For home storage: confirm suitable security and insurance privately. Do not assume that a standard household policy covers your bullion.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Your questions,
given more space.

For a particular order, ask for the terms and arrangements that apply to that purchase.

Can I buy directly through the website?

This is an enquiry-led service. Browse the collection, send the product name or your questions, and ask the team for a current quotation. There is no online checkout. Prices shown as “from” are starting references, with the precise price and availability confirmed for your enquiry.

What is the difference between bullion and a graded coin?

Bullion is generally considered with close attention to metal content. A graded coin has been assessed by a third-party grading service and can include a premium for its issue, condition and collector demand. Grade does not describe purity, and a high grade does not guarantee a return.

Is investment gold subject to VAT?

Qualifying investment gold is normally exempt from UK VAT, subject to the applicable rules. That does not make every gold object VAT-exempt or settle its treatment for other taxes. Confirm the treatment of the actual product and seek independent advice if tax planning is part of your decision.

Does Rosebud guarantee a future buying price?

A future sale needs a current quotation. The market, product condition, demand and transaction costs can all affect the offer. Ask how the resale process works before purchasing. Gold can fall in value and collector premiums may not be recovered.

How do I know what delivery insurance covers?

Ask for the cover applicable to the particular order, including its value limit, exclusions, period of cover and claims process. Confirm responsibility during transit and the receiving requirements. A general description of insured delivery should not replace the terms for your purchase.

Should I buy one large bar or several smaller items?

Compare total price, fine gold content and the flexibility you may need. Separate units can allow a partial sale; a single bar is usually sold as a whole. Smaller products can carry different premiums. The choice also depends on storage, handling and your circumstances; there is no universally best size.
